CNC Delrin

CNC Delrin machining is the precision processing of acetal homopolymer (Delrin) using computer-controlled cutting tools. Delrin is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent dimensional stability, low friction, high strength, and good wear resistance. It is one of the most machinable engineering plastics.

Delrin machines exceptionally well with sharp carbide tooling, producing continuous chips that require proper evacuation. It has good thermal stability and low moisture absorption, making it dimensionally stable for precision parts. Tolerances are held to ±0.01-0.02mm standard. Applications include precision components, gears and mechanical drives, electronics, automotive, and medical.

FAQs
  • What is Delrin and why is it used in CNC machining?

Delrin is acetal homopolymer, one of the most machinable engineering plastics. It offers excellent dimensional stability, low friction, high strength, and good wear resistance. It is used for precision components, gears, bushings, and mechanical parts.
  • What tolerances can Delrin machining achieve?

Standard work holds ±0.01-0.02mm. Precision work holds ±0.005mm. Delrin's low moisture absorption and good thermal stability make it excellent for close-tolerance parts.
  • How does Delrin compare to Nylon?

Delrin has lower moisture absorption, better dimensional stability, and lower friction. Nylon has better impact resistance and toughness. Delrin is preferred for precision parts and bearing surfaces.
  • Can Delrin be bonded or welded?

Delrin is difficult to bond with adhesives. Mechanical fastening or heat staking is used. Ultrasonic welding is possible but requires specific joint design.
  • What industries use CNC Delrin machining?

Precision mechanical components, electronics, automotive, medical instruments, and industrial equipment. Delrin is used where dimensional stability and low friction are required.
  • Is Delrin FDA-compliant?

Yes, Delrin is FDA-compliant for food contact and is available in FDA grades for food processing and packaging applications.
