5-Axis CNC

5-axis CNC adds two rotary axes to standard X, Y, and Z movements, allowing the cutting tool to approach the workpiece from any angle. This enables complex freeform surfaces, deep cavities, undercuts, and features on multiple faces—all in a single setup. Single-setup machining eliminates tolerance stack-up from repositioning, improves surface finish on contoured surfaces, and allows better tool access for deep features. Both simultaneous 5-axis (continuous tool orientation) and 3+2 positional 5-axis (indexed workpiece positioning) are available. Part sizes up to 2,000mm x 800mm x 600mm. Materials include aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and engineering plastics. Tolerances held to precision standards with CMM verification. Applications include aerospace structural components, impellers, turbine blades, medical implants, and complex automotive parts.

FAQs
  • What is 5-axis CNC machining?

5-axis adds two rotary axes to X, Y, and Z, allowing the tool to approach from any angle. This enables complex geometries in a single setup.
  • What types of parts require 5-axis?

Aerospace structural components, impellers, turbine blades, medical implants, complex automotive parts, and any geometry with freeform surfaces, deep cavities, or undercuts.
  • How does 5-axis improve quality?

Single-setup machining eliminates tolerance stack-up, improves surface finish on complex surfaces, and allows better tool access for deep cavities.
  • Is 5-axis more expensive than 3-axis?

Yes, but it can reduce overall cost by eliminating multiple setups and secondary operations.
  • What is the difference between simultaneous and positional 5-axis?

Simultaneous moves all axes continuously during cutting. Positional (3+2) indexes the workpiece to different angles and locks axes during cutting.
