High-Speed CNC Milling
High-speed CNC milling operates at significantly higher spindle speeds and feed rates than conventional milling, reducing cycle times and improving surface finish. Typical high-speed machining uses spindle speeds above 15,000 RPM, with some applications reaching 30,000 RPM or higher. The approach requires specialized tooling, machine tools with high spindle rigidity and thermal control, and advanced CAM strategies to manage toolpath dynamics. Aluminum is commonly machined with high-speed methods, but the process is also effective on steel and plastics. Benefits include reduced cycle times, improved surface finish, and lower cutting forces that minimize part deflection and tool wear.
