We manufactured a precision 7075 aluminum robot joint bracket with matte black anodized finish for a robotics application. At approximately 450mm in length, this structural bracket spans a significant distance in the robot's joint assembly — requiring both high strength-to-weight ratio and dimensional stability. 7075-T6 aluminum was selected for its strength (tensile up to 572 MPa), but long-span 7075 structures present specific challenges: the material's high strength comes with residual stresses from heat treatment that can cause distortion during machining , and thin-walled sections are prone to deflection under cutting forces . Additionally, 7075 alloy's composition can produce surface defects during anodizing — black streaks caused by coarse crystalline phases and uneven second-phase particle distribution . For this 450mm bracket, we implemented stress-relief sequencing with staged roughing and stabilization periods to manage distortion , optimized fixturing to support the long span during machining, and adjusted anodizing process parameters (pretreatment and bath conditions) specifically for 7075 to minimize black stripe formation . The matte black anodized finish (Type II) provides corrosion resistance and the low-reflectivity surface preferred in robotic applications .
